I have such a love hate relationship with my hair.
Over the years I’ve dyed it all the colours, worn extensions, shaved half off, used pretty much every hair product/cleaning product in Boots, tried to do no poo/co-only and had allll the organic hair products. Nothing ever makes me that happy with it.
If you follow my Instagram you might have seen at the beginning of the year I decided to try out a shampoo bar and conditioner.
A few reasons for this really:
• it’s all natural
• no plastic bottles
• good reviews
• I love a good fad (especially a beauty product)
The FAQs on the site fully prepped me for how to use them and warned that they need perseverance while your hair and natural oils get used to it.
So the first time I used them was a disaster. Mostly on my part though as I didn’t rinse it out for long enough. (I learnt quickly this is at least 5 mins of rinsing, not that easy when you’re pregnant).
My hair was so greasy which actually isn’t ever a problem for me. Usually, if I don’t wash my hair for a while it just tends to go dry. So this was a huge shock and I hated it. But, I persevered as I was told to.
It didn’t get any better though, my ‘natural oils’ were in full swing, my hair felt dirty all the time, still I kept using them for 6 weeks. I tried the ACV rinse that was suggested (that actually made it worse) and in the end I gave in whilst in the Organic shop in Glastonbury and bought the some shampoo and conditioner (the same one I used in Thailand last year – the smell took me back).
Finally my hair felt clean again, it was soft and manageable and I loved it.
I’m not throwing the bars out just yet, but if it taught me anything – it’s that I should be grateful and happy with my hair and stop being so vein! I’ve washed my hair once since then and it’s still so much better. I’ll be sticking to the good ol’ stuff unfortunately, which does irritate me as I wanted this to work so badly.
Remember, we’re all different though and what doesn’t work for me might just be perfect but for you 🖤
